Tata Docomo, the GSM brand of Tata Teleservices, which has started operations in 11 telecom circles, will cover seven more by this month end.

Tata Teleservices Ltd (TTSL) MD Anil Sardana, while announcing the launch of its services in Jharkhand on Monday, said the company is investing Rs 8,500 crore for operationalising GSM services in 18 circles. The company started operations in July this year.

Tata Docomo is TTSL’s telecom service on the GSM platform arising out of Tata Group’s strategic alliance with Japanese telecom major NTT Docomo in November last year. TTSL has already received a licence to operate GSM telecom services in 19 telecom circles and has been allotted spectrum in 18 already.

With Monday’s launch, Tata Docomo has become operational in Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Orissa, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Haryana, Kolkata, Mumbai and the rest of Maharashtra circles, besides Jharkhand (and Bihar). Rest of the circles to be covered by this month are: Punjab, Rajasthan, Gujarat, UP East, UP West, Rest of West Bengal and Himachal Pradesh.
